Yobe State Environmental Protection Agency says it will enforce laws aimed at protecting the health and wellbeing of the general public in the state.

Spokesperson of the agency in Potiskum Comrade Abubakar Hamza made the disclosure when the management of the agency paid a courtesy visit to RADIO NIGERIA SUNSHINE FM.

Hamza said the visit was aimed at enhancing the cordial working relationship between the agency and the Radio Station.

Giving a hint on some of the duties of the agency, Comrade Hamza called on parents and caregivers particularly women to make sure they put off the firewoods, Coal or any kind of cooking equipments used after cooking, to avoid fire outbreak and other forms of disasters especially in this harmattan season

He also warned food vendors to cover their goods or fruits in a hygienic manner to avoid the spread of airborne and other contaminated diseases as the agency will not hesitate to arrest any vendor found wanting.

On the protection and the well-being of the community, Another Member of the the management team and the environmental officer of the agency Mohammed Abba, said the agency would embark on mass campaigns across all the local government area of the state, to ensure strict compliance of all the regulations of the agency.

Alh Abba called on parents to ensure they wash with salt, all fruit and vegetables with clean water before consumption.

He advised the general public to embibe the habit of sanitation to ensure a healthy environment.

In his address the Health Higher Environmental Officer Of the Agency Abdullahi Moda, explained that the agency is always ready to accommodate complains and reports from concerned individuals with respect to abuse or pollution of environments and anybody or group of persons found wanting will face the full wrath of the law.

He called on house owners to desist from Giddings latrines and Sewage outside their houses which can cause airborne diseases capable of harming the public.

Responding the General Manager, Federal Radio Corporation Of Nigeria, Sunshine FM Potiskum, Engr.Mohammed Dahiru Sani commended the agency for its efforts, saying that doors are always open for all developmental partners to cue into the corporation’s agenda of Educating, Enlightening and informing Nigerians.
