The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has announced plans to construct a 2.5-kilometre road alongside two bridges in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The NEDC North-East Coordinator, Mr. Ali Abbas, disclosed this during the official handover of project sites on behalf of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission.
According to Abbas, the road project will link Kara Community with Masaka and Mazaga communities, while an additional bridge will be constructed in the Tenderi Community.
He explained that the projects are designed to improve connectivity, enhance socio-economic activities, and accelerate development in the benefiting communities.
Abbas further stated that the Commission is prioritising local content by engaging local engineers, artisans, and youths, as part of efforts to build capacity and reduce unemployment. He added that youth engagement and community participation remain key objectives of NEDC interventions across the region.
Speaking on behalf of the contractor, Mr. Gao Kum of EEC Company said the firm has over 20 years of operational experience in Nigeria.
He assured that the projects would be completed within 10 months and executed in line with approved quality standards.
One of the beneficiaries, Malam Ibrahim Goni, commended the NEDC for the intervention, noting that the road and bridges would significantly transform the area.
He said the projects would ease movement, boost trade, and improve access to farms, markets, and essential services for residents.
