House of Representatives advocates additional budgetary allocation for health institutions in the country particularly those in the northern region considering the nature of infectious diseases they are dealing with.

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Health Institutions, Mr Amos Gwamna Magaji made the observation when he led other members for an oversight visit to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH Bauchi.

Mr Magaji said health institutions in the north were battling top infectious and viral diseases despite scarce resources in their disposal.

He expressed satisfaction over the state of the art facility the oversight team saw on ground and cheap charges applied by the hospital on services such as laser surgery.

According to him, the money being charged for the services was cheaper compared to other parts of the country and the world in general.

The Committee Chairman said ATBUTH has done well in establishing Modular theatre, Oxygen Plant, Molecular Genetics and Infectious Diseases Laboratory as well as other facilities in the hospital.

Responding, the Chief Medical Director, ATBUTH, Dr Jibril Yusuf said the hospital has challenges of inadequate human resource, sophisticated equipment, high electricity tariff among others.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the committee will head to Gombe state in continuation of its constitutional mandate.
