Bauchi Based Non Governmental Organizations Advocate Increase Budgetary Allocation to NEDC.

Bauchi State Network of Civil Society Organizations BASNEC has advocated increased budgetary allocation to North East Development Commission NEDC to carry out humanitarian activities and people oriented projects in the region.

Bauchi State Network of Civil Society Organizations is a coalition of about five hundred non-governmental and civil society organizations carrying out humanitarian works in all spheres of mankind.

The BASNEC Chairman Mr Jinjiri Garba who made the appeal during news conference in Bauchi after a Media Tour of the NEDC projects in the state lamented over attitudes of some saboteurs who use fake information against the Commission.

Mr Jinjiri Garba explained that within it few years of establishment, the Commission has succeeded in the constitution of six blocks of classrooms and VIP Latrines, provision and furnishing of 120 classrooms in all the 20 local government areas in the state.

Others are construction of Mega Schools in all the three senatorial zones, construction of 500 Mass Housing Units, construction of cattle market at Soro, establishment of ICT Centre as well as Molecular in Bauchi Specialist Hospital.

The rest are construction of Kirfi Gombe-Abba road, construction of bridges and renovation of Alkaleri Futuk road as well as training of teachers, youth and women in stove fabrication and waste management.

” …… the Commission for all these years has been championing the course of distribution of non food items to IDPs, distribution of relief materials to victims of fire incidents in the state as well as vulnerable groups, civil society and non governmental organizations, the media among others ….” Mr Jinjiri said.

He insisted that the commission’s activities has impacted positively in on the lives of the citizens in the area of their socio economic development, education, health and infrastructure of the state.

” …… the NEDC projects in the state has also enhanced conducive learning environment, maternal and child health intervention, agriculture and livestock value chain, youth and women empowerment among others …. ” the BASNEC Chairman explained.

While acknowledging the NEDC intervention projects in the state Mr Jinjiri Garba advised the Commission to engage Civil Society Organizations, local communities and the Media in their project planning, implementation and monitoring.

He called on the state and the federal governments to support NEDC initiatives to ensure developmental projects that have direct impact on people’s lives are sustained.
