Food Security and livelihood Sector Lead of the Save the Children in Borno State, Nwari Ihechi has said Save the Children have supported about five thousand seven hundred and ninety (5792) households by engaging them on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMES).

Mr Nwari Ihechi stated this while briefing Journalists at an event of 2023 World Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Day held at the Convocation ground University of Maiduguri.

Food Security and Livelihood Sector Lead who represented the Deputy Director of Programme Operations of the Save the Children, Mr Chachu Tadicha explained that the gesture was necessitated by the shrinking of the donor funding on food assistance which they have been providing to households in the emergency situation as a result of the insurgency since 2016.

He added that the development have contributed in their transition from food assistance to strengthen the beneficiaries to explore Markets opportunities in order to be self reliance.

Food Security and Livelihood Sector Lead further added that Save the Children have also empowered over three thousand (3000) households in similar project that ended last year which in total over nine thousand households were trained and supported for businesses.

Mr Nwari Ihechi stressed that their overall goal in this project are long time food Security, households resiliance and food sufficiency as well as to ensure every child survive, learn and protected.

The event also witnessed the presence benefitting households who came along with their various products for exhibition which the Save the Children brought NAFDAC, and Corporate Affairs Commission to certify and register their businesses for sustainability as well as Today’s Store for quality assurance.

Save the Children further urges a swift implementation of the National Policy on MSMEs for employment generation, Wealth creation, poverty reduction and growth of the Nigerian economy.

The event which is been commemorated 27th of June annually has it this year’s theme ” Unlocking the Potentials of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises”.
