Bauchi Governor laments poor attendance to government functions among Top Officials.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has expressed worry over the recurring attitude of poor attendance to official engagements by Top Government functionaries.

The Governor made his feelings known at the opening of a 3-day Follow Up Training for Commissioners, Special Advisers and Permanent Secretaries organised by the Office of the State Head of Civil Service in Bauchi.

Bala Mohammed represented by the Secretary to the State Government SSG Barrister Kashim Ibrahim said senior government officials have formed the habit of not attending important functions, noting that the such attitudes must stop in order to ensure good governance and achieve results.

“Unfortunately this has been a recurring decimal in our lives, Commissioners don’t feel obliged to attend functions despite repeated admonitions. The Chief of Staff should take up the responsibility of taking attendance to ensure the right thing is done”, the Governor directs.

The Governor who said the implementation of any programme must be based on solid knowledge and well prepared workforce, reminded the participants that productive performance are based on three key ingredients of forming habit, norming it and performing it.

He further disclosed that the cardinal principles of his administration is to train, retrain and continually train appointees, hence the need for the participants to internalise all that would be taught.

“This is a cardinal principle of my administration to train and retrain officials fir optimum service delivery, because the implementation of any programme must be based on solid knowledge and well prepared workforce”, he restates.

In a goodwill message, the Chief of Staff Government House Bauchi, Dr Aminu Gamawa explained that the training which is aimed at equipping top government officials on ways to serve the people and government of the state, hoped that it will translate into the development of the state.

“I want to remind the participants on the importance of attendance as this training will foster good governance and build your capacity. I hope that the training will translate into the development of our dear state”, Gamawa emphasises.

On his part, the Deputy Speaker and Chairman State Assembly Committee on Cabinet Jamilu Dahiru charged the participants to pay attention and reflect on the previous retreat for optimum service delivery.

Earlier, the State Head of Service Alhaji Yahuza Adamu said the training is aimed at showcasing the milestone reached and the need to abreast each other on the current state of affairs towards proferring solutions on ways to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.
