Army Chief, NAN MD Call for Stronger Military-Media Collaboration.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen OO Oluyede, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the media to enhance national security and combat misinformation.

Speaking at the Nigerian Army Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Quarterly Media Chat in Gombe, he emphasized the media’s role in fostering national unity and public awareness.

Oluyede reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to transparency while maintaining security protocols.

Oluyede, who was represented by Maj.-Gen. Obinna Ajunwa, the Commander, Nigerian Army Armour Corps, urged journalists to uphold accuracy and fairness in their reporting. He also highlighted military successes, including the rescue of abducted persons and the restoration of socio-economic activities in conflict-hit areas.

Similarly, the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Alhaji Ali Muhammed Ali, stressed the importance of a strong military-media partnership. He noted that modern security threats require intelligence-driven and media-supported strategies. Ali commended the Army’s efforts in fostering transparency and urged journalists to prioritize national interest and security in their reporting.

Both leaders called for continued cooperation between the military and the media to counter misinformation, shape public perception, and ensure national stability.
