Bauchi State Government has launched the 2024/2028 Multisectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition to tackle malnutrition and improve food security.
The initiative aligns with the federal government’s efforts to raise awareness about nutrition’s importance.
A statement by the sporkperson to state Deputy Governor, Muslim Lawal quoted the Deputy Governor Muhammad Auwal Jatau, as saying that the state has invested heavily in health, agriculture, and education projects.
Muhammad Jatau who is also the chairman council of nutrition in the state said the projects is aim to improve exclusive breastfeeding, food security, and nutrition, especially among women and children in the state.
Earlier the Executive Chairman Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Rilwanu Muhammad, explained that the malnutrition remains a significant challenge, with 54.2% of children under five stunted.
Dr Rilwanu said the project is been implemented in ten local government areas as part of effort to tackle malnutrition in the state.
On his part the representative of care International Isaac Ishiya Abdu appreciated the state government’s efforts in working closely with developmental partners to achieve set objectives.
According to him food security, poverty reduction, sanitation, and hygiene, WASH as well as school feeding programs, remains priorities for the Multisectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition.
The program was designed by the Bauchi State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination in collaboration with CASCADE, Care International, and USAID.
