Flooding: NEMA distributes relief materials to 22,658 victims in Kano

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has commenced the distribution of relief materials, to 22,658 households affected by the 2022 flood disaster in Kano State.

The Director-General NEMA, Mr Mustapha Ahmed Habib, made the disclosure, while flagging off the distribution, in Kano.

He said, the gesture was aimed at bringing succour, under the Special National Economic Livelihood Emergency Intervention(SNELEI), for households affected by the 2022 flood, and vulnerables in the state.

The DG pointed out that, a total of 660,884 households were verified and targeted, to benefit from the Federal governments intervention, across the 36 states, and the Federal Capital Territorial Abuja.

Ahmed Habib, commended President Bola Ahmed, and the Vice president Kashim Shettima, for their support, towards the implementation of the intervention.

He advised beneficiaries, to make judicious use of the items and desist from selling it, to improve their socio-economic conditions .

“The crop seedlings and equipments are given to take farmers back to the land,stimulate crop production and safeguard our national food security in the middle economic downturn”

Speaking at the flag off, Kano state governor Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his deputy comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, commended the federal government and NEMA for the timely intervention.

He maintained that,979 households each from 20 local governments will benefit,while Kano Municipal and Tarauni local government were allocated 1,520 households respectively.

“I wish to reiterate the commitment of my administration towards supporting all programs that will be directly towards alleviating socio-economic hardship on our citizens and residents”

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Ibrahim Muhammad, thanked NEMA for the kind gesture, saying that, be would start a business with the grinding machine to assist his family.

Radio Nigeria reports that, food and house hold items, grinding machines, sewing machines, agricultural and farm inputs, among others were distributed under the Special National Economic Livelihood Emergency Intervention(SNELEI)
