COAS Assures to Tackle Rising Cases of Kidnapping, IED Attacks in North East.

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has expressed determination to tackle emerging security challenges such as kidnapping of civilians and use of Improvised Explosive Devices in the North East theatre of operation.

General Lagbaja made the commitment in an interview with newsmen shortly after a closed door meeting with Theatre Commander Operation Hadin Kai and other senior officers at the command and control center, Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. 

The Chief of Army Staff said this is his first operational visit to the Theatre after been appointed in June this year, to assess successes and challenges in formations and units of Operation Hadin Kai.

“The whole essence of coming around this time is to have an opportunity to go round and physically interact with troops, hear from them so that the army headquarters can take appropriate action on the challenges confronting formations and units” COAS stressed. 

Chief of Army Staff, Theatre Commander and other Principal Staff Officers of headquarters Nigerian Army, Operation Hadin Kai and 7 Division during COAS operational to the Theatre in Maimalari Cantonment.

According to him, the visit will also afford him the opportunity to interact with troops in the frontline in order to address their operational concerns. 

“Address the challenges that we have observed developing in the Theatre, the challenges of kidnapping of civilians on the highway and the use of IEDs to attack civilian vehicles and convoys traversing the roads ” General Lagbaja said.

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja remarked that he will extend similar visit to Sector 2 in Damaturu and Sector 3 in Monguno to assess operational issues in the areas.

The Army Chief lauded the troops for the operational successes so far achieved, assuring that Combat enablers will be provided to support ongoing operations to further ensure more pronounced stability in the region.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff has inaugurated the newly constructed 30-family Corporal-below quarters in Maimalari Cantonment.
