Bauchi State Government has described the Gates Foundation’s funded Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) and Multiple Micronutrients Supplement (MSS) projects as the best maternal and child interventions in the state.
The State’s Commissioner for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam stated this during the Close Out of Alive & Thrive FHi360, Accelerating the Scale of MIYCN and MMS project in Bauchi, organised by the project’s office.
While expressing gratitude to the Alive & Thrive FHi360 implemented MIYCN and MMS, Dr Sani Dambam said the projects have remarkably improved material and young child nutrition in the state.
Speaking at the project Close Out ceremony, the Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed said the closure of the Alive & Thrive MIYCN and MMS Projects in the state was not the end, but a wake up call to ignite action and ensuring sustainability of such interventions.
Dr Mohammed assured the state’s commitment towards sustaining the interventions and improving them for children to get the best care in their first 1,000 days of life, supporting mothers to nurture their babies and giving families the opportunity to thrive.
On his part, the State Team Lead, Alive & Thrive FHi360, Mr Chidi Asimobi who sounds emotional, expressed appreciation to the State Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Primary Health Care Board, Drug and Medical Consumables Management Agency, the media, traditional and religious leaders for their support towards ensuring success of MIYCN and MMS projects.
Earlier speaking the Senior Technical Advisor MIYCN/Nutrition, James Oloyede said the enabling working environment provided by the Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration resulted in significant increase in institutional deliveries, antenatal and postnatal care, improved uptake of MMS by women in the six local councils that benefited from the Alive & Thrive implemented MIYCN and MMS projects.
Highlights of the ceremony include awards presentation and dissemination of the Bauchi State Essential Medicines Lists, which was supported by the Alive & Thrive implemented MIYCN and MMS projects.
