Nigerians have been urged to renew their commitment to national unity, patriotism, and civic responsibility as the country marks its 65th Independence Anniversary.

Speaking during a press conference at the National Orientation Agency (NOA) State Headquarters in Yola, the State Director, Richard Bala Dangari, said Independence Day should not only be celebrated but understood as a continuing call to duty and nation-building.

Dangari paid tribute to Nigeria’s founding fathers, including Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, describing them as pillars whose sacrifices laid the foundation for today’s generation.

“The best way to appreciate our heroes past is by understanding the responsibility that comes with this freedom,” he said.

While acknowledging Nigeria’s long-standing political, social, and economic challenges, the NOA Director encouraged citizens to adopt a mindset of optimism rather than despair.

He warned against negative narratives about the country, urging citizens to project a positive national image both locally and internationally.

“Our diversity is our beauty, and our unity is our strength,” he stressed.

Dangari noted that nation-building must not be left to government alone, insisting that both leadership and followership must be driven by integrity, empathy, and civic consciousness.

“Let us think of what we will do for our country and not what the country will do for us,” he declared.

He commended Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, describing him as “a leader par excellence” whose achievements have raised the profile of Adamawa state nationally.

He further pledged the agency’s commitment to documenting the administration’s milestones to safeguard its legacy from “future distortions.”

Dangari congratulated the people of Adamawa State for maintaining peace and cohesion despite cultural and religious differences.

“Let us continue to emphasize what binds us together by exhibiting integrity, tolerance, and patriotism,” he appealed.
