UNICEF, WASH Stakeholders advocate stronger Awareness on Smart Toilets in Rural Communities.

Stakeholders in Bauchi State Water, Sanitation and Hygiene WASH sector have called for more awareness campaign on the use of Improved Toilet Technology especially in rural communities to reduce the prevalence of Communicable Diseases.
They made the call on the occasion of this year’s World Toilet Day WTD celebration organised by UNICEF in Azare, Katagum local government area of Bauchi state.
One of them and Chairman Toilet Business Owners Association in the area Malam Umar Ali said since their training on improved latrine, they have constructed hundreds of Sato Pan and Sato Stool toilets both at household and public places.
Malam Umar Ali said the Improved Sato facilities are cheap, more hygienic and easy to clean, hence the need for people to embrace the new technology to guarantee their wellbeing.
He said the Sato pan has a safety lid under it which opens when feces us dropped and closes afterwards, making it impossible for flies, rodents, reptiles and other insects to have access to the pit and outbreak of Communicable diseases.
In a presentation on Smart Toilet Technology, Bauchi UNICEF WASH Consultant Abdulsalam Abdullahi said the improved toilets comprises of Single offset pit, double offset pit, Ventilated Improved pit VIP latrine, pour-flush toilet, single direct pit and pit latrine with slab.
