Dangote Sugar Refinery DSR Numan has reiterated its commitment to continued dialogue with host communities to strengthen harmonious and peaceful coexistence.
The Group Manager of Stakeholders Engagement of the company, Malam Bello Danmusa, stated this during quarterly stakeholders’ meetings in Numan.
The Group Manager, Malam Bello Danmusa, said the essence of the stakeholders’ meeting, an initiative of Dangote Sugar Refinery, is to maintain constant contact with communities at the grassroots and hold one-on-one sessions with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth, women, and other interest groups.
“We are getting direct feedback from them, so that if there are things that we are doing right that we can consolidate”
Danmusa noted that there has been significant improvement in the engagement so far, as the company was able to overcome some security challenges due to the cooperation of key stakeholders.
He stressed that the engagement is a continuous process that provides a platform for peaceful coexistence between the company and its host communities.
He therefore appreciated the stakeholders and urged them to maintain that pace for the development of both the company and its host communities.
The District Head of Gyawana, Chief Agoso Bamaiyi, explained that the engagement with the company, one of the major economic players in the state, provides an avenue for both the company and its host communities to discuss their challenges and chart a way forward.
“It’s not every community leader that has access to the management of the company, when you have a parley like this, the company will get to hear from them”
The District Head called on the company to continue doing more in areas of empowerment and the outgrowers’ scheme, which are also key to the economic stability of the surrounding communities.
Also, the youth leader of the Dubon community, Justin Zakari, and Jennifer Hanson from Kowon confirmed that the relationship between Dangote Sugar Refinery and its host communities has been fruitful in terms of youth and women empowerment, scholarships, and infrastructure development, among others.
In a remark, the Community Relations Manager, Daniel Andrew, said the essence of the meeting was to engage with stakeholders and discuss a way forward that would strengthen the relationship between the company and its host communities.
