TCN reaffirms commitment toward increasing transmission and steady power supply in the country.

Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN says it has significantly improved its service delivery this year due to increase in new transmission projects to boosting electricity supply in the country.

The General Manager of the TCN in Kaduna, Mr Ganiyu Aliyu made this known while taking newsmen through a tour of the facilities in Mando transmission station and Kakuri. Transmission station.

Mr Aliyu explained that Transmission Company of Nigeria had executed several capital reinforcement projects across the transmission network through out the country.

He said the projects are all in line with the Federal Government’s agenda on revamping the power sector, stressing that, despite external challenges like vandalism, people building under transmission installations, TCN has recorded remarkable achievements for the year 2023 and its still embarking on many more projects .

The General Manager also disclosed that the company is planning to enhance surveillance of transmission lines and substations nationwide by deploying surveillance drones, cameras, and advanced equipments.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at addressing the rising challenges faced by the TCN, including vandalism, theft of power, cables and sabotage of power station.

He revealed that TCN had partnered with a tech firm to provide Optical Ground Wire OPGW for tracking power towers and installing surveillance equipment.

“We are collaborating with IT companies to use OPGW for tracking every power tower. A rotating camera with long-range visibility and infrared capabilities for night detection of theft will be deployed. We’re engaging communities to report vandalism and thefts while monitoring the stations,” he stated.

Installed 100MVA 132/33kV transformer

“Kaduna Mando-Kaduna Town Substation Installed and commissioned a new distance protection relay for 330kV Jos line
Replaced the Bucholz relay valve seal on 90MVA 330/132/33kV transformer T2A

“Installed 1X60MVA, 132/33kV transformer in Gusau, Zamfara State, Installed and commissioned 330/132/33kV line isolator in Zaria among others.

The General Manager stressed that, the ongoing projects are Mando 132/33kV Sub-Region
Construction of 132kV bay extension, Construction of new 330/132/33kV sub-station in Jaja in Zaria, Kaduna City Millennium Construction of new 330/132/33kV sub-station in Millennium.
and Construction of new 132/33kV jaji Substation in Kaduna.

Others Kaduna Metropolis
Construction of new 132/33kV Substation in Mahuta, Mando, Kaduna
Regravelling of Mando 132/33kV switch yard, Kakuri, Kaduna
Regravelling of Kaduna town TS 132/33kV switch yard among other ongoing projects.

Mr Ganiyu Aliyu also stated that, many communication project are ongoing including Mando330/132/33kV
Installation of multi-protocol label switching-transport profile (MPLS-TP),
Mando 330/132/33kV and Kaduna Town 132/33kV Provision, installation and commissioning of Microwave Radio

TCN is the sole bulk transporter of electricity in the Nation’s power sector. It was established by the Electric power reform Act of 2005, TCN is the nexus in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) charged with the task of ensuring bulk transmission of electricity to distribution load centers.
