The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in collaboration with the Child Rights Information Bureau (CRIB) and the Yobe state government, has officially launched a new phase of polio vaccination and awareness campaigns in Yobe.

The UNICEF team lead in Yobe, Dr Ernest Okoli, made this known at a media dialogue held in Damaturu, the state capital.

He said the initiative will focus on reaching every child under the age of five, with the campaign set to take place throughout the month of November 2025.

Dr Okoli explained that the campaign will also deliver other integrated health services, especially in hard-to-reach areas.

The UNICEF Team Lead emphasised that the initiative is designed to leave no child behind.

In a remark, the State’s Director of Immunisation and Disease Control, Dr Umar Chiroma, has reported a significant decline in polio cases over the past year.

Dr Chiroma further attributed the success of the vaccination to improved surveillance and community engagement.
