The Senate of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU Bauchi, has extended the date for resumption of undergraduate students to January, 7th, 2024.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Director Information and Public Relations of the University Alhaji Zailani Bappah and made available to Radio Nigeria in Bauchi.

The statement notes that the Senate in an emergency meeting resolved that the one week closure of the University be extended to January 7th, 2024.

According to the statement, the University management had earlier announced the closure of the institution to all undergraduate students for an initial period of one week, from 4th to 10th December, 2023, to avert possible breakdown of law and order on its two campuses of Yelwa and Gubi.

It discloses that the closure followed an upheaval by some aggrieved students after the demise of one of their colleagues who was reportedly attacked by unknown assailants at Yelwan Ngas, a suburb of Bauchi town which led to his untimely death.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Police Command had assured the University community that the individuals who fatally stabbed Joseph Agabaidu, a 500-Level Geology student, while defending his 28-year-old girlfriend, Philomena Ahobee, a student of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic would be apprehended within days.
