Borno State Government has approved 706 million, 594 thousand, 787 naira 50 kobo (706,594,787.50) for the payment of various categories of Scholarship to Borno indigines studying across Nigerian higher Institution of learning.
The Executive Secretary Borno State Scholarship Board, Dr Bala Isa stated this in a Media briefing on the approval of the amount by Governor Baba Gana Umara Zulum at the Conference hall of Scholarship Board Maiduguri.
He explained that the categories of those to benefit from the approval include the three hundred (300) Orphans of late Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), reaffirming the government’s promise that the sacrifices of their parents will never be forgotten, and their Children will never be abandoned.
Others are two hundred and six (206) Students of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare Bauch State, who are beneficiaries of the scheme and thirty four (34) Students of Al Ansar University, Maiduguri.
Similarly, repatriated Students from the Republic of Sudan, due to the unfortunate crisis in that Country, to regain academic stability and continue their studies across Nigerian University without setback.
Nursing Professional Examination for 104 Students was also considered in the list as the 104 Students are to undertake their mandatory examinations and professional registration processes at the College of Nursing Sciences Maiduguri.
Likewise, upkeep allowances for 523 Nursing Students for five months were also considered in the approved amount.
Second trench of payment for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Students studying in Nigeria Universities was also part of the benefiting Students who earlier last year received first trench of the payment.
Dr Bala Isa added that the financial intervention by Governor Zulum underscores the role education plays in the ongoing reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement efforts across Borno State, which he said Scholarship Board remained fully committed to transparency, accountability and timely disbursement of all funds as approved.
He used the medium to extend their appreciation to Governer Zulum for his continous support and fatherly guidance, and commended the Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation for his support to the Borno State Scholarships Board and the Borno State Scholarship Students.
President National Union of Borno State Students (NUBOSS), Comrade Umar Alhaji Gana have on behalf of the entire Borno State Students thanked Governor Baba Gana Umara Zulum for the gesture, saying this is the regime which priorities Student welfare most.
