Coalition urges KNSG to declare state of emergency on health and education.

A coalition of citizen groups in Kano, has called on the state government, to declare a state of emergency on health and education.

The groups working around health and education sectors, converged for three days and came up with advocacy points, to achieve the desired objectives.

The citizen groups analyzed the 2024 proposed Health and education budget, focusing attention on allocations to the State Ministry of Health, education,department and agencies under them, to ascertain the potential impact of the budget.

In an advocacy brief signed by representative of the education and group,Dr. Abdulsalam Muhammad Kani who explained that,the state governor Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, is doing everything possible to ensure that, free and compulsory education is taken to the door step of all citizens.

The group called for more efforts, in the areas of teaching and learning materials,qualified teachers,structures,security,sanitation,water and hygiene, safety among others.

The health group chaired by Sulaiman Umar Isma’il, focused attention on timely budget release, tracking implementation status of crucial healthcare programs, monitoring availability of essential commodities, and pushing for equity financing.

Others are release of funds and implementation progress reports on key minimal service package, malnutrition case finding and child spacing, monitoring ready to use therapeutic food stock levels at (CMAM),implementation status of integrated maternal, newborn and child health (IMNCH).

The three day workshop was supported PERL, PLANE and LAFIYA, and paved way for participants to brain storm and shared experiences by scrutinizing the 2024 proposed budget estimate,collated advocacy points, and submit to relevant stakeholders, including Kano state house of assembly.
