40 Youths Undergo Training on circular Economy in Kano

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has equipped 40 youths, with skills on e-waste management, digital technology repair,recovery and reuse.
Speaking at the orientation, the executive director of the center Engineer Yunusa Zakari Ya’u, represented by Dr. Bello Rufa’i Bello, urged participants to make judicious use of the knowledge gained, and develop sustainable business plan.
He emphasized that, the initiative aims to combat the health hazards associated with electronic waste (e-waste) while promoting a circular economy, saying that, registering business names with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) would ensure effective service delivery.
Citad’s e-waste project officer,Malam Ibrahim Nuhu, highlighted that, the project would equip participants with strategies, for deploying a refurbished approach to e-waste management and embracing the circular economy.
He maintained that, transforming e-waste into usable devices will not only protect public health, but also create wealth for communities, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
In his presentation titled “circular economy in the digital tech sector” the special adviser to Kano state governor on water resources, Dr. Nura Jafar Shanono, explained that, the circular economy aims to extend the life cycle of products, regenerate resources, and minimize waste, ultimately addressing global challenges like climate change and biodiversity loss.
The director general National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency(NESREA),Professor Aliyu Jauro emphasized the importance of the training.
Represented by Engineer Umar Adamu,the DG encouraged participants to utilize the acquired knowledge effectively, to eliminate e-waste from their communities and promote circular economy, as a driver of positive transformation, in the global atmosphere.
Radio Nigeria reports that,the training attracted 40 participants and marked by paper presentations, goodwill messages by relevant stakeholders.
