Bauchi Gov’t distributes skills acquisition materials to 6 Non-formal learning centers.

Education Stakeholders in Bauchi State have been urged to use their skills and resources to support government in the fight against illiteracy especially among Women.
The Wife of the State Governor Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad made the call on the occasion of World Literacy Day and First phase distribution of skills acquisition materials by the State Agency for Mass Education BASAME in Bauchi.
Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad represented by the State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Child Development Hajiya Hajara Gidado said the provision of life learning skills and basic tools would greatly impact the lives of those that can neither read not write, hence the need for all and sundry to help in that aspect.
While sharing her experience in acquiring modern education at later stage of motherhood, the Wife of the Governor advised mothers to ensure proper upbringing of their children to become useful members of the society.
In a welcome address, the Overseeing Executive Secretary BASAME Malam Yakubu Aliyu Dahuwa said the event was aimed at promoting mass literacy and to recognise individuals, organisations and the private sector for their contribution to the development of non-formal education in the state.
Malam Yakubu Dahuwa disclosed that six women centres to include Alkaleri, Bauchi, Dambam, Shira, Katagum and Warji were selected to benefit from the distribution of the skills acquisition materials to support learners in the non-formal education sector to become self reliant.
In a paper presentation the Regional Advisor USAID Learn to Read Project Dr Bilyaminu Bello reminded stakeholders on the need for shared responsibility in ensuring everyone learns to read towards unlocking opportunities for all and sundry.
In separate goodwill messages, the representatives of State Ministry of Education, Head of Service, National Mass Education Commission and UNICEF said the world is turning into a global village, hence the need for all stakeholders to push towards achieving literacy target.
On his part, the Director Mass Education BASAME Malam Zuhairu Usman thanked the state government and development partners for providing all the needed working materials to deliver education to adult learning in all nooks and crannies of the state.
The World Literacy Day with a theme; ‘Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies’, saw the distribution of sewing and knitting machines, refrigerators, hair dryers and cooking utensils among others.
