The women’s Right Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) in partnership with civil Society organizations has advocated for additional reserve seats for women and reform of INEC leadership selection process, to strengthen electoral integrity and public confidence.
WRAPA state coordinator Hajiya Yabawa Kolo, made this known during the ongoing 2 day Northeast public hearing on the review of the 1999 constitution holding at the Muhammad indimi Hall University of maiduguri.
Hajiya Yabawa Kolo appreciated the leadership of the 10th National Assembly and State Governors for prioritizing inclusive governance through the addition of reserved seats bill among other critical bills under the ongoing review of the 1999 constitution and the need to have a reform in the INEC leadership, balance in governance, social inclusion and balance gender equality.
The WRAPA state coordinator Hajiya kolo expressed that the bill is pivotal if passed, as it will position Nigeria for accelerated inclusive development that aligns women with other progressive Nations advancing in gender balance governance.
She added that the bill has received broad endorsement from public consultations, town Hall convened across senatorial zones and thousands of citizen’s signatures nationwide.
Hajiya Kolo urged the 10th National Assembly for accelerated passage, state adoption and presidential assent to the bill as a welcomed national development and prayed that the Senate will seize this historic opportunity to treat the Memorandum as Nigeria’s bill and deliver its accelerated passage into Law.
