NEDC Commences Distribution of Relief Items in Yobe

The North East Development Commission, NEDC, has commenced the distribution of the Food and Non-food items in Yobe State to cushion of subsidy removal.

This is in response to the directive by President of Nigeria Ahmed Bola Tinubu that palliative be provided to the 36 States of the Federation to minimise the consequence of the subsidy removal policy.

Flagging-off the distribution in Damaturu, the Yobe State Coordinator of the Commission Dr Ibrahim Ali Abbas said, it’s the first batch of the distribution that began with twenty organizations including all higher institutions in the state.

“At the State level what we are doing after handing over this items to the state government, state house of assembly members, Senators and Federal house of representatives we have also identified various organized groups”.

He urged beneficiaries to be patience as the programme was going to be a continuous process.

“This was the reason last two weeks his excellency the vice president Senator Kashim Shettima along side the Managing Director of the North East Development Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, invited all the north eastern governors including his excellency, the governor of Yobe State to the flagging off of the distribution of the palliatives to all the six states in the ” Abbas added.

Speaking on behalf of the organizations, Yobe State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Comrade Muktar Musa Tarbutu, commended the Federal Government for the intervention and said it came at a needed time.

The items distributed include Two Thousand and Eighty (2,080) 25kg bags of rice, Two thousand and ninety (2,090) cartons of spaghetti, Children wears and Women wrappers among others.
