Fight Against Gender Based Violence Deliberates On New Techniques To Interact with Victims.

Muslim Sisters Organisation Of Nigeria, Yobe State Chapter In Collaboration with Yobe State Justice Reform Team And International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) has organized a one-day comprehensive training and capacity building for judges, prosecutors and other relevant stakeholders involved in handling Gender Based Violence cases in Yobe state.
In her opening remarks, the executive director of Muslim Sister Organisation Of Nigeria, Yobe State Chapter, Hajiya Magajiya Kellumi, said co-opting the justice reform sector into the campaign against Gender Based Violence has become necessary as they are critical partners in handling cases of GBV in the state.
In a paper presentation one of the resource persons, Mr. Babayo Ngadda Abdullahi, dwelt on the provision of the law on GBV.
Also speaking, the project coordinator, Yusuf Imam Kagara, said the objective of the one day engagement is for the stakeholders to deliberate and come up with plans to best approach issues of GBV in society.
In her presentation, the chairperson of International Federation Of Women Lawyers FIDA Yobe State, Hannatu Farouk Jauro, outlined some systematic techniques to be used when interviewing victims of GBV, where participants contributed as to how best to question victims.
She explained that despite the difficulties faced during prosecution of the actors of Gender Based Violence, at least some level of progress have been made with the enactment of VAPP law in the state.
The one-day event brought together experts from the Legal Profession, Security Sector, Prosecutors and the Muslim Sisters Organisation of Nigeria, Yobe State, to brainstormed among themselves, raising fundamental issues on the subject matter.
