Relief items for victims of recent Muna IDP Camp fire disaster.

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally displaced persons, has presented relief items to about five hundred households affected by recent fire disaster at Muna IDP camp, in Maiduguri, Borno State. 

Presenting the items in Maiduguri, the Federal Commissioner Honourable Ahmad Aliyu sympathised with the victims over the unfortunate incident.

He explained that the Commission is considering the use of alternative material for construction of shelter to the displaced persons to prevent incessant fire outbreaks in the camps.

“the Commission is here in Maiduguri, to carry out survey on extant of destruction of the Muna camp fire disaster and also to commiserate with the victims. Today we are here in the office of the Commission to distribute palliatives to the affected victims numbering about five hundred households ” Aliyu said.

On repatriation of Nigerian Refugees back to the county, Honourable Aliyu said the Commission will convened a tripartite meeting comprising officials of Federal, Borno state government and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR to discuss modalities of evacuation of Nigerian Refugees in Cameron, Chad and Niger republics. 

“on our part as a Commission, we will continue to partner with the Governor of Borno State to ensure that we join hands and we get our people living in diaspora, who are regarded as Refugees back to Nigeria ” The Federal Commissioner stressed. 

The Federal Commissioner also assured to complete the construction of one hundred housing units Resettlement City for IDPs in the state by 2024.

Items donated to a household affected by the inferno include 25k bag rice, semovita, spaghetti, cooking oil, blanket, mattrass and dignity kits for women. 

Similarly, the Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally displaced persons and his team also visited UNHCR Head of Sub Office Mohamadou Guindo and also attended a training session being conducted for about fifty Persons of Concern in Maiduguri.
