Kano MoPB, UNICEF organizes social protection review meeting

The Kano state government (KNSG),says the 2024 proposed social protection interventions, would focus attention on the vulnerable including children,people living with special needs (PWDs), and elderly people.
The permanent secretary Kano state ministry of planning and budget (MOPB), Hajiya Lauratu Ado Diso, made the indication while declaring open a one day, social protection quarterly technical working group meeting,held in Kano.
She explained that,if passed the 2024 proposed budget would improve the lives of beneficiaries, under the social protection interventions across various sectors.
The permanent secretary pointed out that,social protection review and coordination meeting is a significant occasion, that brings together all technical working groups, to discuss on the implementation of various interventions supported by UNICEF across relevant ministries and departments (MDAs).
In his presentation titled: Update on the progress made on social protection programmes,the director planning MoPB, Alhaji Mukhtar Yakasai noted that, over 20 billion naira was set aside in the 2024 proposed budget for social protection interventions.
He stressed that, the sectors include education,women children and PWDs,youths and sport,water and sanitation,health and emergency.
UNICEF Kano social policy specialist Fatima Musa maintained that,the social policy programs component priority concern for UNICEF in the 2023-2027 country would try to address,child poverty,social protection system strengthening,public finance for children among others.
She said, social protection aligns with the sustainable development goals (SDGs), to end poverty in all it’s forms everywhere,saying that, lack of access to food, shelter,clothing, information,water and sanitation,serve as major catalysts to poverty.
According to Dalhatu Danladi of Kano ministry of planning and budget (MOPB), social protection is geared towards removing financial barriers to children,PWDs,youths and elderly.
He highlighted that, after the passage and assent of the budget,the warrant would be signed in January to enable MDAs seek for releases from the ministry of finance.
Some of the participants from ministry of education,WASH,Agency for mass education,house hold uplifting program,home grown feeding programs,and the issue of open defecation pollution bill,shared progress and challenges as well as the way forward to achieve the desired objectives.
The one day social protection review and coordination meeting, was organized by Kano state ministry of planning and budget (MOPB),in collaboration with UNICEF Kano field office.
