Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, have intercepted a large consignment of illicit drugs in the Badawa area of Kano ahead of the forthcoming Sallah celebrations.

The Public relations officer of the command ASC Mohammad Maigatari disclosed this to newsmen in Kano.

He said the agency said the operation led to the recovery of 75,000 capsules of pregabalin, 556 bottles of codeine syrup and quantities of loose cannabis sativa believed to be meant for distribution across the state during the festive period.

Maigatari explained that the operation was carried out following credible intelligence and was led by the Commander of the Kano Strategic Command, Dahiru Lawal.

He said the prime suspect linked to the consignment is currently at large but remains under surveillance as efforts intensify to effect his arrest.

The Public relations officer noted that the commander described the seizure as a major disruption to the activities of drug trafficking networks operating in the state. He added that the operation has prevented the circulation of harmful substances that could endanger public health and security.

Lawal said the command remains committed to the directive of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Mohamed Marwa, to sustain the fight against drug abuse and trafficking across the country.

He also commended residents for their cooperation and urged members of the public to continue providing useful information that could help the agency track and dismantle drug trafficking networks in the state.
